This video shows a vintage late-1990s Kenwood VZ-9000 single-DIN head unit stacked above Pioneer Carrozzeria audio components with retro spectrum analyzers. When powered on, its motorized tray extends a hidden LCD touchscreen forward on internal rails before pivoting it upright to play anime footage, then automatically retracts flush into the chassis upon shutdown.

Motorized flip-out head units were designed to fit full-sized displays into standard single-DIN dashboard slots using micro-gear motors, dual rails, and ribbon cables. The mechanism extends the screen assembly horizontally before a secondary rotary actuator tilts and locks it vertically, engaging the touch interface and video display.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, these pop-out monitors represented the peak of aftermarket JDM car audio engineering. They allowed enthusiasts to integrate video, navigation, and equalizer customization long before factory infotainment touchscreens became standard in automotive design.
