The Mocking of Christ is one of the most striking paintings ever made of Jesus… and, surprisingly, almost no one knows about it.

Painted in 1880 by Danish artist Carl Bloch, this work captures one of the harshest moments in the biblical narrative: the humiliation of Christ before the crucifixion. But what makes it truly unforgettable is not just its flawless technique — it’s the way Jesus looks at us.
Bloch breaks the fourth wall. Christ stares back. He confronts us. And forces us to ask: which side would we be on?

Could this be the greatest depiction of Jesus ever painted?
